Frankfort, Ky. – The Maroon Tigers' two-game winning streak came to an end with two losses against the Kentucky State University Thorobreds in a doubleheader, 1-11 and 5-6.
Game #1: Morehouse opened up the scoring on the strength of
Daylun Powe-Salters' single in the first inning, which drove in outfielder
Alan Brown. The Thorobreds responded with Collier Higgs' three-run homer in the bottom of the first.
Kentucky State's defense shut the Maroon Tigers' offense down after the first inning. Concurrently, the Thorobreds scored an unanswered eight runs, resulting in an 1-11 final in the seventh inning.
Powe-Salters was one of six Maroon Tigers who managed a hit during the game; he also had Morehouse's only RBI.
Game #2: The Maroon Tigers fell just short of capturing their fifth victory of the season in the second game, losing 5-6.
With the Maroon Tigers trailing 1-4 in the top of the fifth, Brown scored on a Kentucky State error. In the same inning, senior
Amyr Smith scored when Powe-Salters was walked, reducing the KSU lead to 4-3.
Brown and Powe-Salters both scored at the top of the seventh inning, giving Morehouse their first lead of the game, 5-4. But Kentucky State scored two runs at the bottom of the seventh for a 6-5 win.
Left fielder
Jaylen Greene led Morehouse with two hits, and Powe-Salters led the team with two RBIs.
The two losses give the Maroon Tigers an overall record of 4-16.
Morehouse will travel to Claflin University on Wednesday. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
