Opening Tip: Morehouse looks to win their third game in a row after beating Savannah State 67-62 on Monday in Forbes Arena. With this win, the Maroon Tigers hold a 10-9 overall record and currently hold the second spot in the SIAC Eastern Division. With a second win against Savannah State on Saturday, February 8th, in Savannah, GA, the Maroon Tigers can sweep the season series against the Tigers.
Scouting MHC: The Maroon Tigers enter Saturday's game 10-9 after a tight win against Savannah State that saw sophomore forward Xavier Brewer (Atlanta, GA) lead the Maroon Tigers with 18 points, seven rebounds and one block. Senior guard Michael Olmert (Atlanta, GA) provided a spark on both offense and defense with 14 points, eight assists, five rebounds and two steals. Senior forward/center Kairo Whitfield (Atlanta, GA) scored 14 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists.
Scouting SSU: With the loss to Morehouse on Monday, the Tigers fell to 5-10. In the game, the Tigers were led by freshman guard Marcus Scott (Hinesville, Ga.), who scored a game-high 20 points on 7-14 shooting from the field and 3-7 shooting from three-point range. Junior guard Adrian Bonds (Savannah, Ga) scored 19 points and made a team-high 4 three-point shots. Junior guard Trey DeLoach (Richmond Hill, Ga.) contributed with six points, five rebounds, 3 assists and two steals.
Season Sweep: With a win on Saturday, the Maroon Tigers will sweep the season series against Savannah State. The Maroon Tigers beat the Tigers on Monday.
Black History Night: The Tigers will be hosting their third annual Black History Night in Tiger Arena. The past two seasons, SSU has called it Black History/Fashion Night.
