Morehouse Splits Season Opening Double-Header With Tuskegee

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Morehouse College baseball team traveled to Montgomery, Alabama and split their season opening double-header with Tuskgee University, falling in the first game 9-7, but rebounded in the second game to win 8-3. In game 1 MHC was led by Grant Bennett who hit a seventh inning grand slam in the lost.

Game 1 Turning Point
The Golden Tigers scored runs in every inning except the fourth, and held on for the victory despite six Maroon Tiger runs in the top of the seventh.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Bennett (1-4, R, 4 RBI), Justin Harrison (2-2, 2 R, RBI) and Jalyn Hawkins (1-3, RBI).

Game 2 - Morehouse was led by Bennett at the plate and on the mound as he hit two homerun's and picked up the win on the mound pitching four innings or one run ball leading MHC to an 8-3 victory. Senior Kaelan Ashford-Jones and Daniel Mumphery joined the party, each hitting a long ball.

Game 2 Turning Point
Mumphery's fourth inning three-run homerun blew the game open giving the Maroon Tigers a 6-1 lead.

Game 2 Individual Leaders
Bennett (2-3, 2 R, 3 RBI), Ashford-Jones (3-4, 2 R, 2 RBI), Mumphery (1-2, 1 R, 3 RBI), and Jalen Crawl pitched in relief throwing three innings, giving up two runs, while striking out six.

Up Next
Morehouse will play in the Peachtree City Classic on Friday, Feb. 7 as they take on former SIAC foe Stillman College at 2:30 p.m. followed by a game on Sunday Feb. 9 when they take on Fairmont State University with the first pitch scheduled for 10 a.m.. All games will be played at Home Plate Field in Peachtree City, Georgia.
