Dunn Highlights Maroon Tigers All-SIAC Football Preseason Best Ten Selections

ATLANTA, Ga. – Morehouse College junior running back Santo Dunn highlighted the 2019 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Preseason All-Conference selections as he was named Offensive Player of the Year along with nine other Maroon Tiger selections, announced Tuesday during media day at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Ga.

Dunn, was picked as last season's SIAC Offensive Player of the Year and returns for his third year with the Maroon Tigers. The Miami, FL native led the SIAC in rushing yards (875), scoring (8.4 points per game), and touchdowns with 14. Dunn also ranked nationally in rushing yards at No. 38, tied for No. 25 in scoring and No. 17 in total touchdowns. He earned BOXTOROW National Player of the Week honors after his performance versus Tuskegee University where he ran for a game-high 125 yards and three touchdowns in the upset victory. The same week, Dunn was added to the Black College Hall of Fame Player of the Year watch list. Dunn also earned SIAC Offensive Player of the Week once this season and was named to the BOXTOROW All-American Honorable Mention Team.

Joining Dunn on the preseason All-SIAC first team are quarterback Michael Sims and guard Jean Cyriaque. Earning All-SIAC second team honors were wide receiver Tremell Gooden, center Lee Humphrey, defensive lineman William Callaway, linebackers Julien Turner and Edward Nelson, defensive back Dedrick Vanover and kick returner Ricci Nuckles.

Sims, a junior from Detroit, Mich., earned All-SIAC second team honors last season. He started every game for the Maroon Tigers in 2018 while finishing the season as the SIAC's fourth leading passer. Sims threw for 1,826 yards and 14 touchdowns with only four interceptions. Sims earned BOXTOROW National Player of the Week honors after his five touchdown performance versus Lane College in the Marron Tigers 42-20 victory. He also was named SIAC Offensive Player of the Week twice this past season.

Cyriaque, a senior from Durham, N.C., anchored an unit that helped the Maroon Tigers finish second in the SIAC in average points per game (26.1), third in total offense per game (337.4) and rushing yards per game (147.2). Cyriaque earned All-SIAC First-Team honors and was also named to the Black College Hall of Fame Player of the Year Watch List while earning BOXTOROW First-Team All-American honors.

Gooden, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., earned All-SIAC second team honors in 2018 after he finished the season with 23 catches for 328 yards and five touchdowns two of which came in dramatic fashion. In the XXI Chicago Football Classic Gooden caught a hail mary TD on the last play of the game giving MHC the 23-21 victory over Miles College. He caught the game tying touchdown in the 83rd Tuskegee-Morehouse College forcing overtime in Morehouse's triple overtime victory over the Golden Tigers.

Humphrey, a senior from Plano, Ill., garnered All-SIAC second team accolades at center last season while not allowing a sack the entire season.

Callaway, a junior from Scottsdale, Ga.  had a strong first year in the Maroon and White and looks to play a major role in his second season. In 2018 Callaway was second on the team in sacks with 4.5 and tackles-for-loss with 10.5 to go along with 29 tackles. He also earned SIAC Newcomer of the Week one time.

Turner, a senior from Pickerington, Ohio, finished last season with a team-high 76 tackles good enough for sixth in the SIAC. Turner had five tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He also earned SIAC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.

Nelson, a senior from Chester, Pa., led Morehouse with 13 tackles-for-loss and sacks with six. Nelson was all over the field making 55 tackles from his weakside position while forcing one fumble and recovering another.

Vanover,  a junior from Gainesville, Fla., led the Maroon Tigers with five pass break-ups and was tied for second on the team last season with three interceptions. Vanover is also an All-American in Track & Field and the SIAC champion in the 100m and 200m sprints.

Nuckles, a senior from Suwanee, Ga., rounds out the All-SIAC selections as he finished 2018 second on the team with 26 receptions for 173 yards. Nuckles also provided an electrifying ability to return any kick-off back for a score as he finished last season averaging over 26 yards per return including a long of 45 yards.

Morehouse was picked to finish third In the East Division, as Albany State is anticipated to capture the Eastern Division Championship title as they had three first place votes. With two first place votes, Benedict was voted ahead of the Maroon Tigers, who had one first place vote. Fort Valley State was picked to finish fourth as Clark Atlanta and newest member, Savannah State, round out the eastern division.

Morehouse opens the season September 1 in the inaugural Black College Hall of Fame Classic versus Alabama A&M University at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
