ATLANTA, Ga. - On a night that saw the #14 ranked Morehouse College basketball team receive their 2017-2018 Championship Rings, they clinched their second consecutive Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Eastern Division title with a hard fought victory over AUC rival Clark Atlanta University, 70-67, Saturday afternoon at Forbes Arena n Atlanta, Ga.
The Maroon Tigers were able to take a 28-24 halftime lead despite both teams struggling from the field.
Omar Alston kept MHC in the lead after finishing the first half with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Morehouse College was able to grow the lead to as much at 14 with 4:32 remaining in the game, before Clark Atlanta mounted a comeback that eventually fell short as the Maroon and White pulled off the three point victory.
Turning Point
After Clark Atlanta cut the lead to just one point (68-67) with only 13 seconds remaining in the ball game,
Chibueze Ebinum hit two pressure free-throws down the stretch to seal the 70-67 victory.
Individual Leaders
Senior forward
Omar Alston (Waldorf, MD) had a double-double with a game-high 19 points and 17 rebounds, two assist and two blocks while sophomore guard
Chibueze Ebinum (Landrum, MD) added 16 points off the bench. Senior forward
James Walker (Stone Mountain, GA) chipped in with 12 points and four rebounds and junior guard
Michael Olmert fell one assist shy of a double-double as he ended the night with 14 points and nine dimes in the win.
Shelvick Henry had a team-high 17 points for Clark Atlanta while Romaine Thomas finished with a double-double 13 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.
