ATLANTA, GA – Morehouse College dropped their season finale to AUC rival Clark Atlanta, 27-13, Saturday afternoon in Panther Stadium.
The Maroon Tigers who won the most games in a season since 2010 including a 6-0 start, finish 7-3, 3-3 SIAC, while the Panthers end with a 3-7, 2-4 SIAC record.
CAU took an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter when Carlos Saldana connected on a 28-yard field goal.
MHC took the lead 7-3 in the middle of the second quarter on an 11-play, 68 yard drive that took 5:57 when sophomore Mike Sims (Detroit, MI) hit sophomore
Santo Dunn (Miami, FL) on an 11-yard touchdown pass.
Clark Atlanta cut the Morehouse lead to 7-6 as Saldana kicked his second field goal of the first half, this time from 34 yards out.
With 1:32 remaining in the half, Charles Stafford found Josh Banks on a 26-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the endzone giving the Panthers a 13-7 lead at halftime.
CAU extended their lead to 20-7 as they drove 79 yards on eight plays capped by a 10 yard TD pass from Stafford to Makel Young. The Maroon Tigers were able to put together another long drive but it ended with a field goal by sophomore
Fernando Sdelamora (Fairburn, GA) which cut the lead in half with a 32-yard field goal making the score, 20-10. It didn't take long for Clark Atlanta to respond as Stafford hit Johnathan Sanders on a 15 yard strike extending the lead to 27-10.
The teams exchanged field goals in the fourth quarter as Sdelamora kicked at 27 yarder for Morehouse while Saldana booted a 29 yarder for the final 30-13 score.
The Maroon Tigers were again led on offense by Dunn who finished with 85 yards on the ground while Sims was 20-of-31 for 135 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively MHC was led by junior
Edward Nelson (Chester, PA) who eight tackles (6 solo) one sack and two tackles for loss. Junior
Jonathan Mathis (Stone Mountain, GA) finished with nine tackles while freshman
Daniel Norman (Oakland, CA) had eight tackles for Morehouse.
The Maroon Tigers end the 2018 campaign with a 7-3 overall record and a second place finish in the SIAC eastern division after being picked to finish fourth in the pre-season predicted order of finish.
