Spring Hill Badgers Maroon Tigers

January 21, 2017 – MOBILE, AL – The Maroon Tigers fell to the Spring Hill College Badgers, 69-62.

The loss snapped a three-game Morehouse win streak and dropped the Maroon Tigers to 9-6; 3-4. Spring Hill, one of the newest members of the SIAC, upped its record to 4-15; 3-5.

Tyrius Walker, Ayinde Russell and Duby Maduegbunam carried the scoring load for Morehouse, combining for 51 of the team's points.

Walker, hit 7 of 18 shots, including five three-pointers, for a team-high 23 points. The junior guard and team scoring leader hit all four of his free throws and added three steals, two rebounds and two assists.

Russell was even more efficient from the floor and finished with 16 points. He sank 5 of 10 shots, including four from beyond the arc, and collected three rebounds and three assists.

Maduegbunam had a more solid all-around game, posting 12 points, five rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block. Omar Alston chipped in six points and five rebounds.

Spring Hill shot better than Morehouse from the field (53%-36%), the free-throw line (92-70%) and the three-point line (47%-42%), but the bigger stat was the 41-19 Badger rebounding advantage. The 22-point rebounding deficit was the largest in more than three years.  

The only Morehouse advantage was in turnovers. The Maroon Tigers forced 23 turnovers, while committing only nine.

Gresyn Rogers led the Badgers, with a game-high 31 points, the highest of any opposing player this season. Rogers hit 11 of 15 shots, including five from outside the arc.

Morehouse returns to action, Thursday, at 7 p.m., when the Albany State Golden Rams visit Forbes Arena.
