Box Score February 13, 2016 – ATLANTA – Morehouse failed to capitalize on a 47-32 rebounding advantage and fell, 79-76, to the Clark Atlanta University Panthers.
The road loss, in round two of the cross-campus clash, breaks a seven-game Morehouse win streak and evens the season series with the Panthers.
Morehouse dropped to 13-6; 9-5. CAU improved to 7-18; 5-10.
In a lackluster first half with multiple lead changes, Morehouse settled for a 31-30 halftime lead. Michael Scott paced the Tigers in the period, with 4 of 6 shooting from beyond the arc.
Scott came out firing in the second half, in a rally that gave Morehouse a seven-point lead. But a series of turnovers and ill-advised Morehouse shots led to a 12-0 run by the Panthers who held on to win.
Scott, a senior guard, finished with 17 points and four rebounds.
Robert Askew had a monster game. The senior center from Augusta, GA posted his sixth double-double of the season, with 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, to go with four assists and two steals.
Ayinde Russell had another solid game and got back in the double-digit scoring column. Russell, the team leading scorer put up 13 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out four assists.
Michael Hall chipped in five points, five rebounds and two assists. Martravious Little had six points and a rebound. Brandon Glover had five points and rebound.
Four Panthers posted double figures, led by Tim Sanders, with 23 points.
The Maroon Tigers stay on the road for two more games, beginning Thursday, against the Paine Lions, then travelling to Orangeburg, SC, to take on the Claflin Panthers.
