October 20, 2012 – COLUMBIA, SC – Four second-half turnovers proved costly for the Maroon Tigers who fell 39-26 to Benedict, at the Tigers' Homecoming.
After a slow start and a 7-7 tie at halftime, most of the scoring occurred in the fourth quarter.
The dark side:
The Maroon Tigers continue to turn the ball over. Two turnovers today led directly to 17 points. Today's five turnovers bring the total of the last three games – all losses – to 12.
Morehouse fell to 2-6 and will suffer the first losing season and first three-game losing streak since 2006.
Running back Shelton Hamilton, who just returned from a left knee injury, suffered an injury to his right knee and is likely gone for the season.
Quarterback Donnay Ragland threw an interception for a touchdown in the second straight game.
The bright side:
David Carter returned for the first full game in four weeks and rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown.
Devon Mann caught a 75-yard touchdown pass from Ragland, immediately after a Benedict fumble recovery and field goal.
Khamarr Smith hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass from Ragland, which narrowed a 32-19 lead to 32-26, with one minute left in the game.
Brandon Houston led all players with 12 tackles, including three tackles-for-loss.
Running back Quendarius Hall continues to shine, rushing for 37 yards and a touchdown.
The win was the first for Benedict, which moved to 1-7.
Morehouse will face the Fort Valley State Wildcats, Saturday, at 2 p.m., for Homecoming.
